Stephanie Costello is a visual artist living and working in Brooklyn, New York. Her artwork focuses on the activity of drawing, and is inspired by the complexity of cities, game-playing, and her long tenure working in New York City nightlife. She has exhibited her work in galleries and museums in the U.S and abroad, including The Bronx Museum and Lincoln Center Plaza in New York, the Riverside Art Museum in California, and La Pan gallery in Barcelona and Shanghai.
She joins the show to talk about: how she didn't consider herself a spoken word artist before starting drawing, how she got into spoken word, whether if she ever thought about getting into music, how she learned to DJ, similarities of art & music, her journey into visual art, how travel has influenced her art, the process of drawing on large surfaces (such as basketball courts), creating a project for NBA player Taj Gibson, thinking about designs for large scale projects, what's a "capsule" auction, fitting a basketball court in an auction house, value of bringing art to underserved communities, finding a balance within herself, collaborating with Gallery members, memorable album covers, the ideal situation for creating for people, key skills for artists to develop their style & more!
